EU’s Parliament Signs Off on Disastrous Internet Law
Sad news from the European Parliament.
We Europeans should check how each MEP voted and make them and their parties accountable in the coming elections.
Let’s hope that the text does not get a majority approval the European Council meeting later this month. I hope at least Sweden and Germany will stand on the side of Freedom and can convince others.
If it gets approved expect chaos and confusion as each country transposes the text to its law in different ways in the nezt two years. Some in a protectionist way to their national media groups — read France. Others, especially in Scandinavia, more lightly. It may mean good business for VPNs and offshore sites. Imagine the litigation that may ensue.
We need to support independent European digital rights groups willing to challenge the Directive in court.
